Newsletter Winter 2014

As you may know, Prickly Pear Interiors is located in the wonderful countryside of the South Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and based on the family farm. Everything has its season, as they say and we're now preparing for the coming winter months here at the farm. The rams, or as they're known in Shropshire, tups, have been working - at least most of the ewes now have the tell-tale signs of coloured bottoms where the raddle has transferred from the boys' chests. We shall find out more at scanning. No lie-in for us on New Years' Day ....Phil the scanner makes sure of that when he comes to check the ewes to see if and how many lambs they're carrying. This determines how much they will be fed in the coming weeks to make sure the ewe and her unborn offspring receive the correct nutrition.

As the days get colder and shorter we're putting out hay on a daily basis for the sheep and then we'll need to make sure that when the tups have finished their stint for this year they receive some extra attention after all their hard work! The cattle are now housed for the winter and the TB tests were clear - we always breathe a huge sigh of relief! Pop over to http://www,haytonhouse.co.uk for more information.

We're delighted to say that the wool throws spun from the fleeces of our native breed sheep are now available on the website. They're extremely versatile, in a range of designs based on traditional Welsh blankets and use only 100% British wool, woven for us by an artisan weaver in Ceredigion, Wales. The fleeces go straight from the sheep, into wool sacks or 'sheets', then onto the mill where all the processes, apart from the fringing are carried out in house. But more of this next time ......

We have some special offers on the website at the moment. So, if you're looking for a Christmas gift that is a little different or as a special treat for yourself .... please, have a browse. We were busy at Ludlow Medieval Fayre for the last weekend in November selling our throws and deliciously soft scarves. The stallholders in and around the castle are a wonderful sight, dressed as always in period costume, accompanied by minstrels playing with crowds gathering in the late afternoon to witness the switching on of the Christmas lights in Castle Square. It now remains for us here at Prickly Pear Interiors to wish you all seasonal greetings and hope you'll pop by again soon.
